Without Green Day, there's a good chance Blockage never would have existed. One of the things I loved most about playing in The Queers was the melodic side of their songs, but seeing Green Day's Jaded in Chicago special on MTV in 1994 showed me that there are many ways to blend punk and melody. It inspired me to start writing songs of my own. I hadn't even picked up a guitar in nearly two years, and I knew the songs would suck at first (and they did).
"Walking Contradiction" was actually about our fifth choice for this compilation, but once we landed on it, we realized we had a chance to put our own spin on one of Green Day's most underrated songs. We're honored to be part of A Tribute to Green Day Vol. 3 from Coffin Curse Records, out August 7.
